Deena is an experienced Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) who has been an integral part of Dr. First’s team since 1995, accumulating an impressive 28 years of service. Fondly referred to as Dr. First’s “other brain,” Deena assists with all aspects of patient restorative care, utilizing her skills to make patients feel at ease during their visits to the dental office.
Deena earned her Certificate of Specialization in Dental Assisting from St. Louis Community College at Forest Park in 1990. Since then, she has continuously expanded her knowledge and expertise in the field. She has acquired additional certifications in Dental Anatomy, Placement of Restorative Materials, and Fixed and Removable Prosthetics. Her commitment to staying updated with the latest advancements in dental care is evident through her participation in numerous continuing education classes. Notably, she spent a week in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, immersing herself in the study of Myofunctional Therapy in Children.
Passionate about helping patients love their smiles, Deena takes great joy in developing lasting relationships with patients and their families over the years. Having been with the practice for such an extended period, she has had the privilege of witnessing children grow into adults and bring their own children to the practice. This continuity and connection with patients bring her immense satisfaction.
Deena enjoys spending quality moments with her children and two grandsons, during her leisure time. In addition, she relishes the company of friends by the pool, creating cherished memories. Reguarding food preferences, Deena has a penchant for Mexican cuisine or indulging in a good pizza.
Music from the ’80s holds a special place in Deena’s heart. The vibrant tunes of artists like Prince, Journey, The Cure, and Simple Minds never fail to put a smile on her face. As for movies, she holds a deep affection for classic ’80s films like “Valley Girl.” Additionally, movies such as “Steel Magnolias,” “Notting Hill,” and “The Help” have captured her heart over the years.
Deena’s philosophy aligns with the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, as encapsulated in the saying, “You don’t have to brush your teeth, just the ones you want to keep!” This mantra reflects her dedication to educating patients about the significance of dental care and its long-term benefits.
Beyond her role in the dental field, Deena has a creative side business where she specializes in making personalized gifts adorned with vinyl or engraving. This venture allows her to showcase her artistic skills and deliver unique, customized items.
