At Smiles by Choice, we treasure the beginning of our journey with you and have thus crafted a comprehensive and personalized approach for our new patients. Your first visit with us is an essential step towards a lifelong commitment to your dental health, and we make it our priority to ensure you are comfortable and well-informed.
Your First Appointment
Your initial appointment will consist of an hour-long session with the doctor and an hour with our hygiene department. The only exception to this rule may be for patients with dentures or those considering dentures. During these sessions, we thoroughly examine and focus on understanding your unique dental needs and history.
This comprehensive exam includes the following:
- A soft tissue exam
- Muscle evaluation
- Hard tissue exam
- Occlusal evaluation
- Periodontal exam
- Full Mouth X-ray (FMX) and photographs
If you’ve had an FMX within the last 2 years, please inform our front office, and they will ensure that the FMX is readily available for your appointment.
The Role of Our Hygiene Department
Our hygiene department plays an essential role in ensuring your dental health and creating a quality experience. They are responsible for the following:
- Educating you on home care for your teeth
- Ensuring that your charting in the computer matches your clinical conditions
- Discussing potential dental health issues they may notice
- Updating your medical history
- Taking your blood pressure
- Creating a pleasant and quality experience for you
